unity editor update check - connection to the update server failed
I just install unity from the unity official site , and I want to watch my unity version , so I went to help->check for updates , but then I found a mistake , I can't access update server, I didn't watch my unity version , I watched it's connection to the update server failed .why? I already tried to completely uninstall unity , and then reinstall it , but it didn't work , I use the free version . I can access the asset store . I noticed I 'm using proxy server to surf in internet , so I tried to add System Variable , HTTP_proxy , HTTPS_proxy , make sure unity can also use the proxy , but problem is still here , nothing change.
I have the same exact issue. I'm running Unity 2017.4.1f1. The irritating part about it is I swear it used to ask me EVERY DAY if I wanted to update. About 4 days ago I decided to do so because I had finished the project I started, and of course the "A new version is available, would you like to download" prompt didn't show up on start-up. So I went to Help > Check For Updates, and I've been getting that same "Connection to the Update server failed" prompt ever since. I can access the asset store too.
This happen usually in Asia, pretty much server problem. Just wait unity fix their server. Sometime I can't even login Unity. Pretty much give up on report this since it happen so frequently
yeah , sometimes I also can't login unity , unless I add system variable , sometimes I don't need this . It's fanciful .
Did you manage to solve this? I'm having the exact same problem.
I have little idea of solving this problem ,but my others friend , they don't have this problem.
Same issue here. I tried to download the free asset package "The Book of Dead: Environment" from asset store inside unity and I couldn't because I need to upgrade to Unity 2018.2.0. version. I went to Help -> Check for upgrades and got the same windows with the connection failed. I thought I'm gonna download Unity from the official site but there was only the Unity 2018.1.6f version available, so I'm confused...

Same here. I've had this problem for a while. Currently failing with: Unity 2018.1.5f1.
Other users mentioned that this used to be a recurring problem in Asia. I'm in Europe and I've also tried to VPN into another region, to no avail.
The last time I updated by downloading and running the installer.
UPDATE: this seems to be caused by an expired TLS certificate: https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/connection-to-the-update-server-failed-error-appears-when-trying-to-update-unity-editor-via-check-for-updates-in-the-main-menu

hi , guys ,My problem already solved when I used the new version.
I think the new version may have not the problem , but I also do another thing , let me talk , previously , I use shadowsocks+ssr ,so I download proxifier to achieve real global internet access ,then I open unity , I found unity can access the update server ,though it say my version is the latest version , and I also found a error because of proxifier , so I uninstall proxifier , then I reopen unity ,error is gone and I also can access the update server , but I can't sure the update server is real work because I use the latest , until today I get this message . so I hope you guys can use the new version to solve the problem , If not , you can try to use proxifier , if you get error , just uninstall it , may be your unity can work like mine
