Are edge colliders too expensive to use frequently in 2D?

I am designing levels with a diverse bunch of platforms, each with different functionalities. After doing a lot of testing I've concluded that using edge colliders on about 50% of the platform types makes for the smoothest gameplay experience, and prevents a lot of uncommon bugs in my raycast controller from ever occurring. Some people have said that any collider that isn't a circle or box collider 2D will cause memory or CPU issues if used too often. Is this true, and do I need to worry about using edge colliders too much even though they're essentially just lines?
