New to Unity and have questions about creating a Virtual World

I am creating a virtual world for a K-12 educational campus. Is there a way for my students to create their own avatar when entering our "game"?

Also, I saw something about a "lobby" where all avatars start but it looked like it was for game mode and not a "virtual world". Is there a way to create a starting point and only certain avatars can exit the lobby and others can't leave the lobby/welcome center?

Thanks!

yes, all this is very possible with unity depending on your level of program$$anonymous$$g skills and time you have to dedicate. this question is too broad to answer here cause there are many ways someone might make avatars or coordinate them out of a lobby or into a world. and also be too much code to post an example. if you start on your project and get "stuck" and post what you have done so far people here respond quickly to specific questions. creating user edited avatars would be considered fairly advanced for game development depending on what exactly you want to do. if you say you are "New to Unity" i would consider making a simpler project to start out and get the feel on how things work.

(sorry in advance, i do not have examples to share for a lobby/virtual world template, I suggest checking the unity asset store)

but here are simple answers:

•Yes there should be a way to create a lobby for a networked game. The amount of users would be defined by your server capabilities.

•Virtual world is a term for people playing in a world together online, this is a game mode in a sense. not clear what your were trying to get across.

•Unity is capable of creating networked games. You can define anything you want - it all comes down to the system design. For instance you could have a game level that allows access if a password is entered, that would make it so people who don't know the password would not be able to exit the lobby. or it could be defined by the number of players connected to the client so you don't overload your servers.
