Semi Procedural Generation for Mobile Optimization Question.
I am attempting to make a mobile game the refers to an image and spawns "tiles" from the inferred pixel color. (I.E i have a 16X64 pixel Texture map that defines a level) My question is would it be better from a performance standpoint to load the entire map in a loading screen at the beginning of the level or would it be better to load the level out a little bit at a time as the player needs it. Some additional details are that the player is constantly moving forward and can only move on the x axis. My current setup is that the map spawns a little bit at a time and stays a set amount of rows ahead of the player. I am getting into implementing some object pooling but then I wondered if it would be better just to load everything at once or if that would eat up too much memory.
