Myst-style UI for exploration game?

This is a bit of a weird question...

I have a hand icon I wish to use as a UI for an exploration/puzzlesolving game. Of course, MLOOK is invaluable to me for this reason, but I need to know how to do the following if someone would pls be willing to help me.

  1. The Icon is the cursor and never leaves the center of the screen. (I do want MLOOK and the standard desktop cursor to be able to be toggled to avoid issues, obviously. something like [m] key toggles between mouse-look on and off, when off, the user can switch programs or even close the game.)

  2. The play must be able to interact with objects at a minimum distance via this cursor for puzzle-solving and advancement.

I know this is kinda n00bish, but I hope I can get some help with this. Thank you very much.

I don't know if I'm supposed to plug software here but check out EzGui by Above and Beyond software. This vid about 3:31 in shows what you want, I believe. It's sweet! And no I don't get any proceeds from Above and Beyond.

I'm not an expert, but I would use the "GUITexture component" [with hand icon assigned to it] then have the GUITexture update and track where the mouse location is. If you can read the Penelope tutorial > Joystick Controls... it should give in indepth. If I can write the script for you I will post it.
