Advice on large repeating texture sprite
I have a repeating texture which I use for my 2d ground sprite, and I want the length of this 2d ground to be pretty large, at least 20 or 30+ x the width of the camera.
I have set this up so that the texture repeats fine, and have a collider on my sprite for the player to move around on, everything works as it should.
What I am wondering though is whether creating a full size ground sprite this size is a bad way of doing things, and whether it would be a better idea to somehow resize the sprite at runtime depending on where the player is.
Is it possible for me to extend the sprite along the x axis just before the player reaches the right edge of the camera, and reduce the sprite on the left side at the same time? The idea would be to have the sprite remain only slightly larger than the camera view at all times, while keeping the texture seamlessluy repeating over large distances.
Can anyone tell me if this is a) possible with a repeating texture, b) optimal at runtime, and c) the right approach to this kind of situation?
Thanks for any advice anyone can give.
