Trigger when player looks at object in Unity 5.6 VR
void Update () {
if (canPick == true) {
if (GvrEditorEmulator.Instance.Triggered || Input.GetKeyDown ("space")) {
RaycastHit hit;
if (Physics.Raycast(transform.position, transform.forward, out hit)) {
Debug.Log (hit.transform.name);
}
//we need to check if player pressed Google cardboard button or space button [This is no longer supported in Unity 5.6, so how do I trigger when user looks at object?]

This code worked for me:
void Update () {
if (canPick == true) {
Raycast hit;
if (Physics.Raycast(transform.position, transform.forward, out hit)) {
Debug.Log (hit.transform.name);
}
}
}
