Check Player Settings -> Other Settings -> Device Filter. If you have both ARM and x86 apk is much larger.

Wow, can't believe I didn't think of this obvious answer. $$anonymous$$udos! Granted, Yury also didn't mention it, and he seems to work for Unity :)

18mb doesn't seem like a lot to me, for a library with all of the features of Unity. If you want super tiny distributions, I think you'd have to go with native apps (as in, no library, or just the native libraries that are already installed thus do not have to be distributed in your APK).

..and even more so, 4mb increase from v4 to v5 seems very reasonable as well. I think it's been a few years between v4 and v5, so 4mb difference is not much compared to increase in device storage capacity and bandwidth over the last few years.

I think the library went from something around 8$$anonymous$$B for v4 to 17-18$$anonymous$$B for v5. Ofcourse, I agree that build size maybe a problem for few considering their app is not doing much and that they should go with native apps, but Unity should have this feature in the future where the developer is able to select only the libraries they want to link. That would be super awesome!

@shopguy is right. libunity.so size increased by several (~5 IIRC) mbytes in Unity 5 comparing to 4.6. That is the new code and functionality, and it cannot be stripped.

It is also correct that comparing to asset size of an average game, the code size increase is negligible.

However we will try our best to make the file size smaller.

@shopguy, to me it's a lot because user will compare the size of our game with other games and will complain about "why using so much memory for this kind of games?". @sumeeton, agree with you, unity should have a feature to reduce the size. It would be super awesome.
