Question by Panamamigo · Aug 06, 2010 at 02:19 PM · cameraflashlightning

flash? such as a camera flash, lightning, strobe light, or something?

What might be some possible approaches to make a flash of light somewhere? My purpose is I want a flash of light to play when two objects connect, but I'm not sure how to achieve this. Any ideas?

You should be able to achieve this by hooking up a high intensity white point light to a script, and then turning it on and off about 10 times a second. You can also add flare effects to make it look more flash-like. One thing to note though is that you need to have minimal lighting in your area for this to work.

If you are going to have a lot of light in the area, then you should consider using a particle effect that creates a set of particles that together look like a light flash.

The particle effect idea seems like a good one, but can you script a particle effect to turn on and off and stuff? I've never had an excuse to script anything with particles.

Yeah, if you set it up as a "one shot" and then you can toggle the Particle Emitter's "Emit" bool on and off.
