MonoDevelop shows splash screen then never launches
Hi all, I'm running Unity 4.3.1f1 and whenever I try to open a C# script by double clicking on it I see the MonoDevelop Splash screen but it vanishes and then MonoDevelop never finishes launching. The same thing happens if I try to launch MonoDevelop directly. I've been looking all over trying to find the reason and unfortunately nothing works. I have Windows 8.1 with .NET 3.5 installed I also installed the latest package of Mono from http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html
I'll be honest I'm a little lost and since I don't intend to purchase UnityVS plugin for Visual Studio I really need to learn how to launch MonoDevelop so I can actually debug. Any tips would be much appreciated. -Jonathan

So I did get it fixed.
The logs stated: FATAL ERROR [2013-12-10 12:14:39Z]: System.EntryPointNotFoundException: Unable to find an entry point named 'gtksharp_list_get_data' in DLL 'glibsharpglue-2'.
Using Google I found another topic that asked me to replace the MonoDevelop.exe.config. This still didn't work.
Finally in the end of the thread someone pointed out they had an old install of GTK# turns out I did too. Uninstalling that made Mono Develop launch!

It's problem with splash screen, under splash screen - error message, which needed be clicked.
This was also the cause of my splash screen getting stuck on $$anonymous$$onoDevelop. I clicked to open a shader file and there was an error dialog window behind the splash screen with a message like "File is not a project or solution". Once I found a way to close the error window, the splash screen went away.
Press "Escape", close error, close solution in $$anonymous$$onoDevelop and reopen script. )

First of all, uninstall both Mono and Unity. Reinstall ONLY Unity, and include Mono inside. After that, double click on the script. If it happens again, sometimes you need to click on the actual Mono Develop icon. This happens to me some times, but it was just hidden behind some windows.

Rather than uninstalling software... try right clicking your task bar and selecting "Cascade windows". See if an error message is then present and close it.
Chances are your error message that isn't allowing Monodevelop to finish loading is sitting perfectly underneath the splash screen. FL_FLow mentioned this as well. For me cascading windows is the fastest solution since everything else is locked.
This is a fix Unity should look at. Might be dependent on how many monitors you are using.
