How to allow movement while in animation
I previously asked this here
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46147373/how-to-allow-movement-while-in-animation-unity
So I am not going to go too in depth here. For information about my issue please look there.
If you use root motion the character is driven by the animator. If the animation doesn't move, the character doesn't too. You'd either not use root motion, toggle it for the empty state, or toggle the whole animator on and off for the empty state.
@hexagonius If I uncheck root motion then I still cannot move at all.

Hello @BillehBawb !
I recommend you to make a empty Gameobject containing the playerGameObject as child of the Empty GameObject. Make the animation for the player (the child) and allow the movement for the Parent GameObject.
