Setting up regions for different materials
Hey folks! I'm working with a really high-res model of an antique tractor my group captured using photogrammetry, and I'm trying to optimize it for use in VR and AR. I know I can make repairs and simplify the mesh in MeshLab and MeshMixer, but I'm sure the best way to reduce the triangle count while maintaining detail is by setting up bump maps and other shader effects. For this, of course, I'll need to apply different shaders to the tires, the metal, etc. I'm sure there must be a way to do this in Unity, but I've been unable to find it! Any ideas? Thanks!
You can set different parts of the mesh to use different materials in 3D model editing software.

I see! Outside of Unity, then. I do have MeshLab and MeshMixer on hand; do you know whether either of those have tools for this? And, once the .obj is exported from another bit of software and imported into Unity, how does Unity know how the regions have been split up?
