Drag the Unity folder from Applications to the trash, along with the shortcut in the dock if you have one. Then empty the trash.

Unity Application: ~/Application/Unity/

Angry Bots Demo: HD/Users/Shared/Unity/

Launching the app is going to cause a preferences file to be written: HD/Users//Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.UnityEditor.plist

License file: HD/Library/Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy/License Files/

Log files: ~/Library/Logs/Unity

Recently I removed and install again Unity 5.3.6 on El Capitan and as an adition to $$anonymous$$ike 3 and Hexagonius comments I also removed these files:

~/Library/Application Support/Unity

Also search for Unity and $$anonymous$$onodevelop files in finder and remove them as well!

If you have removed all Unity files and installed Unity from scratch and Unity is still crashing opening the your project its possible there is something wrong with the project itself. Try these steps.

  • first try opening Unity and creating new project (if you are able to create and open new project your Unity is most possibly ok)

  • zip your project and have back up (make sure you are opening the project in the same Unity version)

  • open folder with your project and remove everything except "Assets" and "Project Settings" (this will force Unity to reimport all assets)

  • If it still crashing go to folder "ProjectSettings" and remove "ProjectSettings.asset" (this option helped us but it will remove all information from the edit/project setings/player...all platforms)

  • if it doesnt work for you try removing files in "ProjectsSettings" one by one and see which one migh be corrupted

Root of this cause in our case was that we are using BitBucket and SourceTree to version control our project between 2 computers. We only track changes in 2 folders "Assets" and "ProjectSettings" by sourcetree with "Visible$$anonymous$$etaFiles". There is always only one user making changes to the project and pushing changes to origin. The other users ressets to this commit and makes changes or adds content. This however maybe a confusion to either computer because there are 2 computers adding changes to the project yet never both at the same time.

THERE ARE NEVER 2 USERS WOR$$anonymous$$ING ON THE PROJECT SI$$anonymous$$ULTANIOUSLY!

We don't need to work all on the project at the same time and we mainly use version control to keep track on changes, having project in the cloud and always having the option to have latest version of the project.

If you need to work on the project simultaniously in a $$anonymous$$m READ THIS POST

Hope this helps.

I don't think this is enough. Unity uses installer package which does more than just place a "Unity" folder in /Applications
