Unity ID COPPA and implications
If I create a game, lets say "generic RPGMMO number 643462" (not exactly what I'm doing, but similar - online interconnectivity) and want to enable analytics on Unity ID, I'm asked about COPPA - I'm assuming analytics is a rather big can of worms when it comes to collecting data.
I'm not targeting 13- but is it preferable to comply COPPA anyway? I have no issue with disclaiming what I collect which would be the email, a username and a password with no intent on doing more to it other than for identification and potentially newsletters - as well as transferring the IP address to allow people to connect to each other, however I am not sure what data Unity analytics collects.
Think user A hosts server locally -> sends IP address to server -> server adds IP to lobby
User B sees the lobby -> sends request details from server -> server verifies request and sends IP address -> user B connects to user A.
(Similar to COD(4?)'s server browser or killing floor's)
And side question would anything with online transactions force me to comply to COPPA?
If I do decide to comply to COPPA should I then get a lawyer to create a proper privacy policy when I release or would a simple "we collect your username, email and hash of password for identification and newsletters" be enough?
I have skim read the COPPA page here, I am not a US citizen, nor do I intend to host the server in the US.
I have a feeling I should enable COPPA and press submit but other than the questions above I'm not certain what else it would effect, and since I can't change it afterwards I am hesitant.
