Question by darklord2121 · Dec 08, 2015 at 09:09 AM · freeprolicensingindie

licensing fee when game revenue is more than 100k

hello, me and my friends planning to create a indie game ( a simple pc game ). my question is what exactly happen if a game make more than 100k. i know we have to buy pro licence, so is that means we we buy a pro licence for $1500 or there is another fees we have to pay. if there is another fees is there is a specific calculation? thanks

It's not whether your game makes 100$$anonymous$$ that matters, it's whether your company has 100$$anonymous$$ of gross income. So for example if you were to raise 100$$anonymous$$ through crowdfunding, you would straightaway need a pro license even if you hadn't started making a product yet.

yup basically four of us (we are basically 9 people but only 4 that have a game) have our own game that's why we use personal licence not a $$anonymous$$m licence. well, money is tight right now cause we finally create our start up company (to buy hardware and all the tools we need) but we are ready to release our mobile app and game.

basically its a game that we create before we start this company, so it just a step to enter the industry and maybe we can get some money out of it, we already create a game design (down to all the mechanic and some of the key asset already been made) for our first game and we gonna decide what engine we use from there.

Hi, from our FAQ you can get the info you need: https://unity3d.com/unity/faq

The top two questions may be relevant:

Q: Are there royalties or a per-title fee?

A: No, Unity does not charge on a per title basis and you do not pay royalties or pay revenue share, even for games and applications made with the free version.

Q: Are there any annual or maintenance fees?

A: No, Unity does not charge an annual fee or maintenance fee.

You buy a licence for Unity Pro. That's it.

You just have to buy a pro license (technically 1 per 2 machines). And if you make 100k, congratulations - hopefully the pro license won't be too much of a dent in your profits!

FYI, I've found the unity sales guys really helpful with this info - email them if you have questions.
