Removing Library folder is breaking the project
I'm doing pretty trivial thing:
creating a new project from scratch
with just one cube in it
changing version control mode to "visible meta files" like documentation suggests
changing asset serialization mode to "force text" (some people writing that this is required as well)
saving the project and closing unity
removing Library folder (documentation suggests that it can be removed without breaking project)
running unity with my project again
Expecting: to see my cube on a scene
Actual: cube disappears
Am I doing something wrong?
I see the same behavior as OP with build 5.4.0f3-HTP (b21dfedb4779) Personal. @ILICH di you manage to find a solution?
I actually figured out what was wrong. After you delete Library folder, Unity starts with "Untitled" empty scene ins$$anonymous$$d of the last scene that you worked with, as it normally does. However, you can still manually load your other scenes in the project and everything works fine after that, just click desired .scene file in your assets folder.
Are you sure you actually opened your scene again after opening your project? Unity starts with an empty unsaved scene in the beginning.
You are correct, thank you for the advice. After removing "Library" folder, Unity starts with "Untitled" empty scene for some reason.
The "some reason" isn't hard to guess. You just deleted something...

In our projects, we don't delete the library folder, but rather exclude it from version control. In SourceTree (and probably in other software) there is an ignore-file, where you can specify which folders, files or endings to exlude.
Thank you $$anonymous$$ixPix, but I'm not following the logic. If my colleague gets project from git - he will not see Library folder, so, effect would be identical as if he just deleted it.
Can you please make it more clear what should I do to preserve the scene when sharing a project through version control in the scenario that I've described in my question?
It is true that you can omit the folder from version control without deleting it. But a) the OP never said this had anything to do with version control and b) I'm not sure that it helps anyway. If it's not possible to remove the Library folder without corrupting the project, then it's probably also impossible to restore the project from version control.
