[META] Accepting a self answered question for somone adds karma, Bug?
Pretty much the question says. When i accept a self answered question for someone, it adds karma to them. Is it a bug or intended to work that way!

It's most likely intended since someone else is giving the karma. If he accept his own answer he won't get any karma but if someone else accept it he does get karma. It was that way since i can remember.
It shouldn't work that way, seeing as how they didn't even bother to check it as accepted for themselves then they definitely don't deserve the karma for it in my opinion.
Well, some people have two accounts anyway, one to ask and one to answer so controlling the karma is quite of a big process.
$$anonymous$$y motto on karma, try and pay the bill with it, see how much it is worth. That is why I don't run after newbies when they don't mark and upvote.
It definitely will be exploited by many people when they notice they get karma for nothing. Then they'll be posting questions with things they already know the answer to, such as "What do my script work funny semicolon too much?" and then post an answer to it shortly afterward with their true code (from before they altered it to be jacked up) in it saying "Oh I fixed it!" Then wait for a mod to mark it as accepted for them.
And yeah, most people don't see the accept button or know it's there, but they do get informed of it's existence quite often. Similar to the [add new comment] button.
How much karma is it giving to them when you mark it anyway? I'm not able to mark other answers accepted yet.

Yeah, I've noticed/suspected that as well (even a couple years ago when I was here more often). I've ranted about it on my profile page more than once. (amongst many other things)

$$anonymous$$arma doesn't do anything for us in the real world, no, but on this site it grants users site-management permissions which (in my opinion) shouldn't just be doled out to anyone that hasn't gained some amount of trust within the UA community. It's not an Xbox Live GamerScore.
As for people not marking answers, that's not about the karma anyway. Accepted answers are to help others with the same question find the best answer, so people should mark them. Actually, if this was my site, I'd make it work the reverse of what this topic is about. They don't mark an accepted (and correct) answer to a question they ask, whether the answer be their own or someone elses post, and a mod has to mark it for them : -5 karma to them because most likely they're the one that comes in here on 1 of a hundred profiles asking for a code to expand upon the last code they got wrote for 'em. (I'll stop myself here and save my rants for my profile about-me or whatever area xD)
Atleast a mod seeing this post would think twice before accepting the such answers --flamy
One can only hope lol
And btw you are almost there some 100 pts u can do it to! :) --flamy
Yeah :) ... but I'll be bouncing out of here for awhile again (not sure how long) within the next week or two, so I won't get to use my new superpowers much until I come back next time :p
