Interactive Story Based game algorithm
Hello all , I am trying to make an interactive story based game : the game will display the following for example: (player is person2)
person1 : hello person2 : hey person1: how are you? person2 : (gets two buttons as choice) 1st choice : I am fine 2nd choice: I am not ok
if choice 1 is selected : person2 : why ? what is wrong ? if choice 2 is selected: person2 : that's great want to go out?
and so on ... I will be drawing a map like the one i uploaded to know the cases and what goes to where.
I have found plugins such as fungus to do this , but i would like to make one from scratch in an efficient way (i am sure that this isn't about lots of if elses) . So my question is the following , how does these things work ? what are the algorithms related , what is the idea and how to code it ?
Any step by step tutorials will be very appreciated .
Note : it should be interactive (player will press buttons and depending on the button he presses the game will continue).
for more information , i am aiming to make a game like episode (on playstore).
Thanks for all in advance.

You would need to create a state machine. Info on state machines in C# can be found here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5923767/simple-state-machine-example-in-c
