Why do the tutorials not work?!?!?

Hi.

I have watched the tutorials and, for some reason, when I do exactly as they say- it doesn't work. I use Visual Studio. Is that the problem?

Visual Studio is fine.

The problem might be the age of the tutorial you're doing. Unfortunately, some tutorials are done in older versions of Unity, and they might not work so well in newer versions. Try to stick to tutorials that are done in Unity 5+... they usually say on the main page what version it was tested in. I know it can be a little frustrating when you're starting out to get part way through a tutorial just to find out it doesn't work. But there are several that do though.

I go to the unity site, then go to the tutorials section and then try to do the "roll a ball" game. It then tells me I have errors.

I'm pretty sure I've done that tutorial before and it worked, but changes to newer versions of Unity may have broken it too. It's also possible you missed an instruction.

Within the Unity Editor, there is a tab called Console that logs the errors your game throws when you run it from the Editor. Check that tab. Feel free to paste any errors you are receiving in there to here. The errors will usually say what script the error occurs in, and the line number, so it is a good idea to paste the code that the error relates to here too. $$anonymous$$ake sure you use the "code" button before pasting your code in here. It's on the toolbar above where you type messages here (the one that says 101 010).
