Hi @saralu. I was having the same problem. After hours I found out a solution. Go to MY ACCOUNT > Go to account (directly from the Unity Launcher) and specify a Timezone.
At first this field was blank on my profle. Once I specified a Timezone I was able to activate Unity and start working.
My hypotesis is that the server which manages the activation process needs to know in which timezone we are in order to successfuly activate Unity. If can't find any, connection fails.
I hope this works for you and everyone else with the same annoying problem.
