GUI text, door and object collider

Hi i am new to Unity3D and im currently doing my thesis about 3D VLE implentation about our school but im not so good at scripting. This is the scenario: i have a GUI text to display points(IT looks like a the number of money you have in GTA: Vice City), these points are required to open a specific door and i can obtain points by colliding on objects on the scene(after colliding on the object it will be destroyed). What i know for now is how to open a door by OnTriggerEnter function but how about changing the value of GUI text when i collide on objects(just like picking up a key for a door). I appreciate your reply this is for our thesis. Thank you!

I answered a question some time ago which seems to do what you want. It creates a "flying points" string which flies up slowly while vanishing. You can check the answer at http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/122479/attack-damage-scrolling.html#answer-122539 . Hope this can help you.

Quite similar but thats not exactly.. Just imagine the in GTA:Vice city when Tommy picks up money it adds in the GUI text intended for the current money.
