My 2D character is hovering away from the ground and walls for some reason, and is also experiencing some other issues,My 2D Player hovers over the Ground and Wall Tiles I have set up, don't know why

In Unity, I am trying to make a 2D character that can move by changing its own gravity in the cardinal directions, but the character is hovering slightly over the ground and away from walls, causing my groundCheck system not to work. When I change the Body Type in my RigidBody to Kinematic instead of Dynamic, the character stops hovering, but won't move. It is probably worth noting that my environment is composed of a tilemap grid with a Tilemap collider 2d and no other collider, and that may be part of the issue. The movement is also a bit buggy when I can get it to work, as often on corners the character won't move until i press the button twice. I am very much a beginner, and would appreciate if someone could help. Thanks!
