Question by yassir_amry · Oct 29, 2017 at 02:57 AM · bug-perhapswindows 10chromeunityanswers-site-specificanswers.unity3d.com

Cannot post a question/comment/upload image on UA when using Google Chrome

Previously, I posted a problem where I cannot upload image when using Google Chrome to access UA.
Eventually, I realized that I couldn't even post any question or comment when using Google chrome while I could when using Mozilla Chrome.
Additionally, UA brought me to info page that I tried to do an Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attack, as it redirected me to this CSRFAttack-detected page when I tried to post a question using Google Chrome.
Just to make it more clear, I could do what I couldn't when I access UA using Mozilla Firefox.

So here's my system details: OS: Windows 10 version 1703 64-bit Browser: Google Chrome Version 62.0.3202.75 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Usually when Unity sends you to a Cross-Site Request Forgery page, it means they have judged your IP address to be one that is similar to an IP commonly used by 'bots' or cyber-attackers. By the sounds of what you describe, I'm pretty sure that's what's happening. I had the same problem with UA, I then noticed that something had changed my IP address to a generic one (maybe a VPN or Malware did it?). I uninstalled/disabled any VPN software I had and checked for malware, which put my IP back to the normal 192.101.etc.etc, which is what was assigned by my ISP.

3 things to check, just in case:

  1. Is Google Chrome blocking any pop-ups or are security settings stopping UA from operating properly?

  2. Has your Google Chrome been altered by malware/virus or has it been taken over by an extension(add-on) that was installed? Extensions can change your IP (you have an IPv4 and IPv6) Maybe try completely un-installing GChrome and making sure that ALL GChrome folders are removed, then re-install.

  3. Are you using Virtual Private Networking software that alters your IP, or is your ISP assigning you an IP that is considered by internet standards to be a generic IP commonly used by 'spam-bots' and 'robots'?

PS, Unity might consider it an issue if enough people complain about it. $$anonymous$$aybe Unity could double-check their definition of a 'suspicious' IP address.

There is no definition of a 'suspicious' IP Address. If an IP address is flagged by Unity its because there has been a known spam attack from that address recently. Such things can also be triggered if you attempt to access certain elements by non-direct means. The most likely cause is a VIRUS or Add-On/Extension which is attempting to perform actions against your will i.e HiJacking your browser.

Take action by FULLY resetting ALL browsers in your OS and Running Multiple Virus Scanners including root-kit detection.

I've found if you use Privacy Badger, you'll have to disable it for this site, otherwise commenting and other features might not work properly.
