Question by CrucibleLab · Mar 15, 2015 at 03:49 AM · projectiletrajectory

Increasing the "hang time" of a projectile

Basically, I want my projectile (similar to an artillery shell with an arc trajectory) to take more time before it hits a target.

I tried modifying the values of various Rigidbody attributes, including Mass, Drag, and Angular Drag, but what I got in result is a decrease in projectile trajectory distance instead of an increase in hang time. So, I'd think this probably requires some custom code changes.

So, the question, again, is how do I simply increase the hang time of an projectile with all other factors being equal?

If you are using gravity you can try dividing the initial velocity by c and the gravity by c^2.

If your only concern is literally making the same trajectory take more time adjusting the time scale while the object is in flight is going to be the easiest way.

Otherwise, you're probably going to play a physics calculation game getting a similar path. Change the gravity (Edity -> Project Settings -> Physics) and gravity scale then adjust the initial velocity accordingly. This will be the driving factor in range, max height, and flight time.

Here's a link to the equations/samples if you haven't taken physics: http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/traj.html
