Can't enter accented characters in Monodevelop
I very much like the Monodevelop editor that ships with Unity for Windows, but I can't enter any foreign characters with it. I'm using the usual ALT-key + ANSI code method, but it doesn't work. Monodevelop seems to have some shortcut system built-in (Hold down ALT and then a number to jump to a different script window or something?).
This is especially frustrating b/c I can't enter any special characters in the Unity inspector windows anymore either! ALT just switches modes in the editing window. Has this never worked?
I am danish and I have no trouble writing danish characters. Incl. æøå. Have you tried to switch keyboard layout or perhaps copypaste the characters from a Notepad document to see if this problem persists?
That's a great idea to switch the keyboard layout. I have a bunch of different ones to enter, so I'm hoping to avoid the copy/paste solution (which I'm sure would work -- the characters display fine, I just can't enter them in the way that I'm used to!
I'm seriously hoping you don't have identifiers with ÆØÅ in them, Berggreen. ;)
haha! I always code and comment 100% in english. So no worries. As an old geek from C64 and Amiga assemble days, I NEVER use danish in the code. But customers do have their countries and that can give some funnny german and french accents in the strings from time to time.
I just tried it. Visual Studio has support for æøå, but Unity doesn't. The variable comes out with questionmarks where the foreign characters are supposed to be. ;)
