Question by rakifsul · Sep 08, 2014 at 03:38 PM · asset storelicensinglegallegal issues

Can i sell an asset which contains other free assets?

I'm currently making a battle car template scripts. However, this package contains dependency to a free asset from asset store. I wonder if i can include the asset to my package. If i'm not allowed to do that, what would be the best solution? Thanks.

No, according to Section 3.8i of the Asset Store EULA, this is not allowed:

"You agree that you will not... copy, distribute... from the Unity Asset Store or the Assets, unless otherwise permitted" (http://unity3d.com/legal/as_terms)

The solution is to contact the developer of the other asset to get that permission.

I do see what your saying, and sorry it's been two years XD but this was the soonest I found. What then would be the point of using assets if you couldn't use them in anything?

You interpreted this answer wrong. Things you can get from the assetstore are ment to be used inside your Unity projects. This is allowed. This question was about selling or redistribute the assets in their source form which is usually not allowed as tanoshimi explained.

You might want to read the EULA yourself. Since you are the end user of the assetstore you should be aware of the terms stated in the EULA.

Ok so from my understanding: As long as you make the asset your own by changing sprites/adding new content to the game, you can then sell the game as an asset on the asset store even though another asset is part of it?

You can't, but you can sell it without the needed package and in the instructions and on your page let people know it is required to use the tool. One of my asset does this with a Json parsing tool.

This way allows for the other developer the choice of changing the price of their tool if they so desire.

No. You CAN sell the game itself, but you said you were working on an battle car right? So you are supposed to sell ONLY the car. Create a folder, put the prefab, the textures and the materials there and then sell it.

BUT, You can't sell a asset, if it was made using another assets. Unless you have the permission. And, even if you have, i doubt your asset will be accepted.

So, resumming, it works in this way:

You create your own asset, with your own things, and sell it. No third parties unless you have their permission.
