Why do answer pages keep redirecting to the index?
Whenever I follow a link such as a Google result to a Unity Answers page, it brings up the index page as though the link was broken. It kept leading me to believe those pages had been deleted, but when I go to the effort of entering the url directly I can always bring up the page.
Does anyone know what's going on? How do I fix it?
There's a years-old problem where following a link to one specific answer takes you to the front page (the one full of new questions.) Is that what you mean by "index page"? Trying again usually goes to the page with the answer.
The problem seems to be UA is attempting to log you in (using cookies, I assume?) and gets confused. It's very sporadic. Happened to me today, but otherwise can't remember the last time.
Yes, that's what I mean by the index page. Ironically it happened to me just now trying to access this question from the link in my email. But as you said, when I clicked the link again it managed to open this page correctly.
It would make sense if it has to do with some kind of automatic login attempt, since there's also the problem of automatic logins not working. Also, when I login manually it takes me back to the front page ins$$anonymous$$d of remembering what page I was on. It's very annoying.
