Question by looak · Jun 30, 2011 at 12:28 PM · gameobjectsmovingsceneview

Moving objects with arrow keys in sceneview for high precision.

Is it only me, or do you also get very annoyed by placing stuff with high precision in the scene view? Especially large objects, where you cant always zoom in as much as you want and get the handle in the same screen. I usually switch to 4 split view when doing this. But I don't always get the precision I want.

Moving objects with the arrow keys with high precision would be such a relief.. so that I don't have to rely on my shaky hand moving big objects 10 units a tic.

Does anyone have a solution for me?

Same question here. If you can find a way to set this in the preferences, let me know...

Under Edit menu, set Snap Settings. Then hold shift while dragging. Or type numbers into Transform directly.

Typing numbers into transformation directly seemes just stupid since your sitting and guessing. And you probably wont get it 100% correct. I'll hvae to try that Shift drag thing.. thanks!

It depends. Sometimes you know you want a child object to be 0.5m left of it's parent. Typing is probably simplest in that case. Note that there is also vertex snapping (google it with unity).

That wasn't question, Waz. The question was, "Is there a way to move [art assets] with the arrows?", not "What are some alternatives to this?"

That's like me answering the question, "How do you spell 'schmuck?" with "You can use the term 'jerk' or 'idiot' ins$$anonymous$$d."

... and this sort of rudeness is one reason I haven't answered anything here since 2011. Toxic community.

I just made a Unity editor script to accomplish exactly what you are looking for. Check it out at this GitHub Gist
