How does Unity import from Sketchup?
I am using the Unity Cloud Build service so I can't directly import the model from Sketchup into Unity. I need to convert it to FBX first and then import that.
The model is pretty large, 20MB as a Sketchup file.
So I exported the model to FBX using the Sketchup export tool but that resulted in an almost 2GB fbx file and Unity is not happy with me trying to import and use that monstrosity.
But importing the file directly into Unity results in a much smaller file that Unity is very happy with and it seems to not have lost any quality. The meta data file for it in the Unity project folder is only around 2MB (not sure if this is relevant).
From what I understand Unity uses a Sketchup feature to import the model. So how does it use this and should I try to use the same method or is there a better way?
