Animated character plays in the preview but not in the scene.
So i've tried importing an animated character into Unity3D from Maya.
The animation is baked into bones. After import is complete, in the animation section in the Inspector, I can preview the animation and looks just fine! but when I drag and drop an instance into the scene, The animation doesn't play. In fact I don't see any "Animation" Component attached to any of the gameobjects in the character hierarchy. So I tried adding animation component to the parent, and to the base bone, but still doesn't play any animation. Just so confused, wondering what am I doing wrong?

ok so in the hierachy or where your animation is drag it into the scene , then add an animation component , make your you select the "Play on awake" button , if that doesn't work then maybe you need to restart unity . thats all i can say sorry
