Change gizmo and Handles.Label layering

How do I change the depth layering of my gizmo (created via Gizmos.DrawIcon) and Handles.Label? I want to create a gizmo with a Handles.Label on top of it. I've looked up GUI.depth but it doesn't seem to be working. I also tried changing the Handles.Label transform, to no avail.
