What is the best way to add a lot of grass to Unity 3D that doesn't cause lag?
Hey guys, in my game nature is a very big element and I want to have a lot of grass that responds to objects, for example models of characters(both player and NPC) walking through it.
Now the way I've been creating grass(I use blender btw) is that I would create a plane and assign a texture I make myself in GIMP, then bend that flat plane/ I would then import it into Unity and place a few of these down so the cross(If you stood above it and look down, you'd basically see an X)
A really good example of what I'm trying to achieve(but not with really tall grass like in this video) can be seen in this youtube video:

See how whenever a model character or player walks through the grass, it moves? I can tell they're flat planes(which is why I made my grass model a flat plane as well) but what is the best way to achieve this effect that won't cause lag in my game?
I know my computer is a beast (MSI all in one touchscreen gaming PC) and I don't want to make a game that runs awesome on mine but is super laggy on normal/average computers :(
Screenshots would be very helpful too as I'm a visual learner :)
