Is a License required for simple testing for a business making over $100k/yr
I work for a company that makes over 100k a year, but the personal license makes it pretty clear that we need to purchase a license.
However, I am only going to be using Unity to test it out, since we're currently comparing game engines for a VR project we want to start on. We've been using Autodesk Stingray, but it has too many issues that are hampering our progress, so we want to look into Unity and Unreal as options. We're not a game studio, we're a Civil Engineering firm looking to promote some VR projects. No money has been nor will be made with Unity.
I don't want to pay for a license if we're just testing it out and not producing anything. Is it OK to use Unity with a personal license just for testing purposes as long as nothing is produced, or is the license 100% mandatory?
I want to be extra careful not to fall afoul of the license. I wasn't sure if the 100k limit is for game development or just overall company revenue which does not come from game development.
