Where is the unanswered option for the spaces?
The site navigation guide describes accessing unanswered questions only as being part of the dropdown above the question column. But it's no dropdown, neither in Default nor in HelpRoom. Was this removed, moved, or is it a current bug?
That does seem a little funny, the way it's working now, but we never liked that feature anyway. In practice it never did any good.
New users trying to gain points would answer years-old debugging Q's, or would cut&paste answers onto old duplicate Qs. Or they wrote answers for a Q where one answer had 10 up votes but wasn't marked as the answer. Just completely unhelpful stuff. Sometimes marketers use unanswered Qs to promote something in the Asset Store, but a topic search is fine for that (since it's fine to put your better answer on an already answered Q.)
The site has also never placed much emphasis on the official answer anyway. We never cared if the most upvoted Q was the green answer. Often the person asking the Q checked some bizarre work-around as the answer, while another one got lots of up votes. That was fine with us. In other words, many answer-checked Qs are really unanswered, and vice-versa.
The real way people answer old Qs is a search, they don't find an answer, solve it themself, then decide to be nice and post their answer to that old Q. Having an "unanswered Qs" section sends the wrong message about what the site is for.

You don't have this dropdown?
Oh - if you select any of the spaces that dropdown goes away. But if you then click the "Home" link that appears it goes back to the default space and the dropdown is there.
But what is the dropdown for then? All questions? Default questions?
Is really like a filtered unanswered dropdown to focus on either default or helproom.
I believe it gives you everything regardless of space, but not 100% sure of that.
Is it possible to have that for let's say the default space only? It would make it much easier to move simple questions to the Help Room. Unless there's an equaly easy way to see which room a question has been postet to. But right now, I don't know.
RE: moving to HelpRoom from Unanswered list:
The Unanswered list is pretty much the same as the "Sort by Created" list. But I think most people probably don't even switch. They look at the "Sort by Activity" list.
In theory, moderating is now just picking either list and moving Q's into the HelpRoom. The important thing is new users looking at the Default space will learn what belongs there.
Sometimes you'll see a user with higher rep than you who answered a silly Q and left it in Default. I think moving to HelpRoom then is fine -- they'll still get email replies and won't care about the space. Likewise some beginner Q's in Default get Closed. I think it's safe to move and re-Open them. Use a mod-only comment if you like, but I don't think they even get a message.
If a question is closed it should not really by re-opened unless the user has a valid reason on request. I know the help-room is for personal questions that dont really benefit others but we are not really making if effective if we just move everything there. It still gets swamped and bogged down. Regardless of space, Guideline busting questions are always to be rejected.
