Networking - 1on1 based on Player's level
Hi all
I was thinking about converting my game into an online one like FIFA. I practices doing a simple game where x amount of players can join 1 game and play together. But im stuck on this FIFA idea. This is what its supposed to do...
a) All players start on level 1. b) On each level they play 5 games of 1on1. c) When they win x amount of games, they get promoted to play with level 2 players. d) Loop from b)
Question is, how do I go about doing this...in terms of:- 1. Separating the players so they play a random player from their own level. 2. And anything else I need to know?
Are you talking about a web player version? Have you looked at any network tutorials? It is a hugely complicated subject so I would give more detail in your question, what other stuff do need to know? To randomize player selection why not pick players on what part on the $$anonymous$$ute they joined , eg below thirty secs they go ingroup a, the others in group b, or use the random function.....
Every fresh new online player to ever play online would enter group_A. Unless their progress was saved into a database, after login they would enter their relevant group.
In group_A we set each and every player to face a 1on1 with another player in that group. So I will need to create new game for each pair of players. When their game is over we destroy that game so no one else can join.
We save all the players wins/loses and we calculate whether they qualify to group_B. I have a database setup using my php$$anonymous$$yAd$$anonymous$$ when I was doing the login tutorials.
And this game would be for iOS and Android devices...and maybe web player version also
Hi, I still don't understand what you want to have answered? It sounds like you have a game already but just want to convert it... why can't you just use the code from that? Have you actually tried to convert it yet?
Lol basically im not sure how to convert it. Right now what I have is that the system will refresh servers, if theres no available servers a server will be created-here how do I wait until another person joins this server to have the 1on1?
then how do I check the player that joins is actually on the required level?
I've used unity's built in network feature to create 1 server, and if none are found then to create one. And then other players refresh and check for available servers. But nothing to actually check players.
Any ideas?

Im going to try this logic:
After successful login, save the username and use it to look up the database to see which level player is on.
When I search for hosted games, if the players are not on the same level as me then I will quit the game and continue searching

Consider an Elo rating system instead of levels. Elo gives you finer control, and responds to players actual skill. Your level system as described could produce some heavily biased results.
Start your matching off by looking for players within 50 Elo points. If none are found after a defined time interval stretch it out to 100. Then 200 and so forth. The exact time interval will depend on the number of players you have available.
