Help with humanoid set up!

hi, so my current character was imported as a legacy character. I have programmed a fair amount of the animations that i created for it in Maya. But i would like to try the mechanim tool. So i try changing the rig settings to humanoid, hit keep extra bones, then apply. Next I hit configure and nothing happens.... is there supposed to be a empty scene with the character and the avatar set up after you hit configure and save?
