How to develop 2D game for multi-resolution? What rules do i need to follow?
Do some research on the resolutions you want to build for. 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 are the most popular. In Unity, on the Game window you can set the resolution. Just make sure to test your game in all the different resolutions you want to build for. If you're using NGUI, that can help making your GUI multi-resolution friendly. There might be other GUI tools to help, but NGUI is the one I use.

You can have automatic resizing for different resolutions if you use the tk2dcamera supplied by the 2Dtoolkit extension found in the Asset Store. more information here
