Creating my own server. Will it lag on other countries?
Question says it all :) I am creating a server for my game. I wonder if the game lagson other countries of the globe. I have a 5 Mbps connection, and I might switch to 25 or 50 later depending on my needs, but that's not the point. Will my game be freezing or running slow etc even I apply lag compression ways? I am going to create a server for my home because I don't have money to pay for the Photon Cloud and the CCU limit for free version is very low.
There will always be lag between any network connection, even on the same computer. As a general rule-of-thumb, the further they are from the server geographically, the greater the lag.
How perceivable this lag is to your players depends on many factors, such as the type of game and the networking implementation.
If you want a general idea of what your players can expect, find a multiplayer game similar to what you are making, and try playing it on different servers.
umm... i am gonna use UDP protocol something like that... plus its a shooter game... so what do i do?? any solution? yes i can apply lag compression techniques etcbut would it still run slow?

Depends on your upstream and the hardware power. Usually consumers don't have a symmetric line, so 5MBps downstream doesn't mean 5MBps upstream. Better check on speedtest.net. Without a symmetric line it will most certainly lag. You may be receiving (at least for a few players) fast enough but you won't be responding fast enough. Also it depends on how much data is transmitted. The only way is to try it to be sure, but what i can tell you is: Don't expect to run a game for more than 2 or 3 players on your homemade server.
