Unity major CRASH Importing Asset Package (950MB)
So, ive had this problem all the time i have had Unity. Importing large packages basicly BLOWS UP dozens of icons on taskbar. Heres a picture of the problem.
Now, how can this happen? Unity somehow manages to crash my EXPLORER. Wtf. This only happens with large files, over 500Mb.
Please help, this is seriously very annoying. The PC needs to be Restarted when this happens, restarting Explorer.exe doesnt work. Im using Windows 8.1 64Bit, and Unity5. Though this happened also with Unity4.
Not sure what "blows up" means, but you seem to have a lot of applications running... what's your memory usage like?
@tanoshimi, I think he saying they are opening when he imports his assets in Unity.
I'm pretty sure though this is more of a Bug than a problem we can solve. when you say Asset Package do you mean Asset Bundle? or a UnityPackage file you get from the Asset Store?
I'll see if i can duplicate this somehow and see if it occurs on my end (64 bit, Windows 8.1, Unity 5.02)
Yes, it happens when importin large Unity Packages. And those icons are not there, i only had Unity on last time this happens, the crash duplicates every background program there is on on taskbar.
As I said, and what @Yash987654321 said.
Just report the bug... and tell them that to replicate it just import a 500 $$anonymous$$B asset Package
I've tested it on my pretty weak machine.(dual Core, 16GB RA$$anonymous$$, 64bit, Win 8.1, Unity 5.02) and with 1.5+ GB. Not as a Unity Package. Now the Proejct is so bugged up, I can't even open it. (and going into task manager, Unity Editor.exe reads Fatal Error)
I can't even turn it into an asset Package lol.
You should really report it to unity, as you would with all crashes like this. We cannot solve it. and if we could it would probably involve modifying UnityEngine.dll or Unity.exe which would break the EULA. the alternate solution is to simply split the Asset Package to something like 320$$anonymous$$B each. (920$$anonymous$$B is a really big asset package to try and import). Assu$$anonymous$$g that its your own custom package
Got it into a Package file, does the same thing but doesn't crash. weird

Bug Report + Asset you are importing ^_^
So i need to write all over 500$$anonymous$$B packages to the report that can be gotten from Asset Store? Eh.

Having the same issue , any solution ?
Well, i managed to make it importing work without blowing up by simply letting Unity do its thing in peace, and shut down all other programs such as Firefox etc, and didn't touch the PC at all. I'm not completely sure, but i think it might be PC running out of RA$$anonymous$$ what causes this.
At the moment, newest version of Unity and Windows 10 this problem hasn't happened once.
