Is UA under such utter neglect by the core Unity team?
I mean It's license for a third party service expired twice recently and it took unity well over hours to renew it.....what is happening?

Yes, my opinion is Unity Co. is wisely choosing not to waste time and money on UA. Unity Answers was started way back before Unity had really made it. The manual had lots of holes in it and the internet was no help. It was also brutally moderated, like StackOverflow, which made sure it had useful well-written Q's and answers. Unity Answers was very good for Unity back then.
But years later, by say 2014, they didn't need UnityAnswers anymore since the manual was much better and so many people have blogs and books and so on. The volunteer moderators had also gotten very tired and all quit. Unity already has an unmoderated area: Forums; they don't need another one. And it's almost impossible to get volunteer moderators to come back, or get new ones who agree on rules. Keeping UA running is probably cheap and easy enough, but anything more is a lot of work for not much gain.
i feel like it's still very useful, although in a very pathetic state, but i guess like you say....it's a wise and calculated decision afterall, there's plenty of help on other places on the internet, and those who seek help here get it albeit with some difficulty (and sometimes they don't, but it's not the last resort in any way).....its something like the philosophy of "Don't fix what ain't broken in the first place"....although somehow this doesn't feel right...ive read into a quite a few posts in the moderation space...and i can see how everyone is dissatisfied with the current condition of UA...but also has come to terms with is...guess it's like the greater the building the harder the fall...Thanks!
