Question by MegaSpyro · Dec 20, 2016 at 09:42 PM · guibuttonposition

How do I change Buttons location in script?

I have this c# script for Restarting the current active scene. Now, I want it to be at the RIGHT Top, not at left top, I tried with something like : new Rect(00, 00, 00, 00, ... But I got an Error, can someone add it in the script, so I understand what I did wrong :D

The script :

using UnityEngine; using System.Collections;

public class Restart : MonoBehaviour {

 // RestartCurrentScene
 void OnGUI()

 {
     if (GUILayout.Button("Restart"))
     {
         Application.LoadLevel(Application.loadedLevel);
     }
 }
 // Update is called once per frame
 void Update () {

 }

I want to say that I like have nearly 0 knowlegde in scripting, but I´m trying. Thanks for your Help

instead of GUILayout you can use GUI. The following script will create a button 80 pixels wide located 90 pixels from the edge of the screen (80 + 10 - defaults).

 [Range(80, 120)]
 public int buttonWidth = 80;

 [Range(30, 50)]
 public int buttonHeight = 30;

 [Range(10, 60)]
 public int buttonXOffset = 10;

 [Range(10, 60)]
 public int buttonYOffset = 10;

 void OnGUI()
 {
     if (GUI.Button(new Rect(Screen.width - buttonWidth - buttonXOffset, buttonYOffset, buttonWidth, buttonHeight), "Restart"))
     {
 #if UNITY_5_3_OR_NEWER
         // Application.LoadLevel is deprecated UNITY 5.3 or newer
         // Use SceneManager.LoadScene instead
         // To use SceneManager you need to make sure that UnityEngine.SceneManagement; is included in the using statements
         SceneManager.LoadScene(SceneManager.GetActiveScene().buildIndex);
 #else
         Application.LoadLevel(Application.loadedLevel);
 #endif
     }
 }

In the script provided above there are 4 public variables buttonWidth, buttonHeight, buttonXOffset, buttonYOffset which you can modify to get your desired button size and location (change range values if needed). Hint: Try changing the values using the sliders at run time to home in on desired look.
