Question by CarsonC · Oct 15, 2017 at 12:12 AM · iosdeployment

Can I post a game?

So first of all I'm new to Unity. Pretty much can I make a game with Unity and deploy it to the appstore, ios, etc. Also what is a license and would I need one? Thanks!

@DingoStudios Yes you can!

Make sure in your build settings you have iOS selected. Once you've finished your game you can build it which will create an Xcode (Apple's development IDE) project. To publish from Xcode look here. This is a guide Apple has released that will give you all of the information you need to take a project from Xcode and submit it to the App Store.

As far as licensing goes in terms of Apple, in order to submit an app to the App Store, you do need enroll in the Apple Developer Program. As this costs money ($99/yr), I would suggest waiting unitl you are ready to submit your application before enrolling.

In terms of Unity, you can use the free version of Unity to a certain extent. According to Unity:

If your company currently makes more than $100k in annual gross revenues or has raised funds in excess of $100k, you are not permitted to use Unity Personal, for prototyping or otherwise, as defined in our EULA Agreement. You may use Unity Plus for up to $200k in annual gross revenues, or Unity Pro with an unlimited revenue or fundraising capacity.

This means that if you are a serious developer, you should look into subscribing to Unity's paid service.

I hope I've answered your question!

Ok thanks! So is a license overall pretty much a subscription? Also do you need a mac to upload your game to ios? thanks

Yes to both. Essentially, the subscrition provides you with freedom to earn as much as you would like. You do need a $$anonymous$$ac to run Xcode and therefore you need it to submit an application to the App Store.

Besides the App Store (of course) maybe try posting it on social media and other ga$$anonymous$$g websites? I'm not really a market-guy. Good luck!
