Question by superventure · Apr 17, 2016 at 06:25 PM · programmingpaypal

Are there places where I can get more immediate help, or commission for code?

Hello. I only need very basic help programming every once in a blue moon, and it's always only for a question way out of the realm of my expertise. Is there some website I'm missing that I could just commission someone to answer one time situations or create occasional code for me?

I really do love using unity and the fact that there is a convenient help site, and I'm not trying to rant! But there is no guarantee that I will get help/answers. I know the more advanced developers can't spit out the perfect solution to EVERY question posted- it's not their job, and lord knows its a blessing to get that kind of help and for free, but it sure would nice to just be able to post a question with an added incentive, for example:

Hey I need help doing this (question I posted earlier), Here is video explaining what the problem is and what I'm trying to do. If you can fix/achieve this, show me a video using your solution in play, then I will send you a paypal and you can send the working script to me. Willing to pay a total of $XXX.00, negotiable

I have checked around and know that 'pay for coding' websites do exist, but I have not found one specifically for unity users/ game developers in particular. Only sites that allow you post your questions and pray that someone answers you or at least throws you a bone.

If you can simply answer the question, then skip this next paragraph

to save time- for any grouches here that are going to post only to go off topic and lecture me about the importance of learning coding myself.... Really? Every time you need an appliance fixed or your car has troubles, do you set off to get a bachelors degree on car/ electronic repairs? My request isn't far off from requesting personalized art work. The only difference here is that it's not art, it's math and programming. It's simply not my strong suit, and so what if I want to pay someone for the occasional trouble? If I'm willing to drop some cash for something, take it, or leave it for next person to take advantage. Any-who..

I know that there is a section in the forums for requesting developers, but I DON'T need to hire a team, I don't want join a team to learn, I don't want to hire someone for long term, or by the hour. I didn't see any posts asking for specific, single time help with a script, so I'm not at all sure if my question is allowed, or will even be taken seriously.

I just want to know if missing something that already exists, thanks

Use these two forums to look for developers or post your offer. I know you've seen them, but try it :)

Thank you, I will. I'm so surprised this not a bigger thing, or doesn't come up more easily in google searches

I took a look at your question when it was originally posted and I couldn't help you because: 1. it's based on another script aparently, which you did link to but still it requires helpers to know about how the other script works, as well 2. the code you posted is almost 100 lines long, this is a little bit too much to read and make sense of for most people browsing the answer system. 3. It's written in UnityScript which the vast majority of developers don't use for the good reason that the vast majority of developers don't use it ;) I used it myself when I started with Unity because it seemed easier, but I quickly switched over to C# because it's so much easier to find resources and help.

After taking another quick look at your script I can't understand it completely without opening it in Unity and exeprimenting a bit.

Generally, I think the UA system is good and most people get help. If you don't, and no one bothered to write what I wrote above, you could try asking yourself what could be improved with your question; Ins$$anonymous$$f of a specific headlook script, maybe create a new test script that only does what you want but what doesn't work in the existing HL script, and post that. Chances are, it'll be far shorter and easier to understand.

Thank you. I agree the UA system is good, I just can't fathom some things myself and can't explain in any more detail the problem it self. I took another look in the forums and found some new posts similar to my situation asking to commission, so I'll try luck there.
