Scanning real time object.

Here I will explain clearly about my concept:

  1. The game view is like this have only one camera with scan button and stop button.

  2. The game rule is to find the object from the real-world and scan it then compare it to the default lists.

  3. I have stored 4 meshes(not accurate one) in my lists such as a table, chair, phone and computer screen. This scenario the player should find the chair object which already gave the clue. So the player need to search the chair in the real world and scan.

  4. The background process is comparing the real-world object to the default chair object if both have similarities the player get the winning card, otherwise he get the another clue.

My queries are is that any possible situation to scan the real-world objects and compare it to the default meshes, I saw the Vuforia giving the plugin for scanning the real-world objects and implement to the virtual world. But I need to compare the meshes too. So please tell me the way for this method or give me any other suggestion.

What comes to my $$anonymous$$d is writing a plugin that will access to camera and kind of have an edge detection like the one in unity as a post process and find the edges of the chair in real word, compare the shape of with the reference chair shape it these two mathes and its a chair. You can access to camera and take a screenshot from the camera and add a edge detection post process effect to get kind of a shape from it, this can be done within the unity but for the rest, i have no idea.

Ohh that was a fast response thanks for that, so you said write the plugin for the edge detection in unity itself and then try to scan the real-world objects with the help of edging. If it is mean I have no idea how to detect the edges.

I don't think that writing a plugin is a must BUT probably you will have to, so that's why i said it like that. You can access to camera, take a picture and add an edge detection to image, this can be done in unity free but for the rest i really don't know how do you compare the shape with a reference.
