Cubic terrain lags
I am making a game that will make use of minecraft-like terrain, made of cubes, with ability to interact with each individual cube (destroy / create, fertilize, irrigate etc.).
At the moment i am using basic cube GameObjects as building blocks, which - while reasonable for prototyping on small 10x10x10 patches of terrain - get far too slow on anything larger.
Was wondering about any tricks to make cube-based terrain run faster.
The goal is to be able to make something like this: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120911205440/finalfantasy/images/5/56/Zigolis_Swamp_3.png That is - rectangles and ramps as foundation for moving around and pathfinding, textures and extra models for making it look prettier.

Found this guide, which seems to outline all the techniques i'll need in the foreseeable future for optimization :) http://www.blockstory.net/node/56
