maximum slice in a sprite sheet
im making a 2d game (for ios / android), i try to put all character texture in a single sprite sheet 4096x4096 (about 1200 slice) , it crushed when i rename & hitting apply (not enough memory for texture2d) .im worried , should i separate them into 4 2048x2048 sprite sheet? As there are 4 groups of characters for 4 stages and there is a avatar room (change clothes & characters). Considering the performance and potential "crush" (maybe my pc sucks?) , which way should i go ? Thank you.

If you'll never use them at the same time then sure thing split them, the only influence that sprite sheet is useful for - reducing draw calls, so if you don't draw at a single frame sprites from sheet 1 and 2 there are no reasons why wouldn't you want split them, moreover that would be advantageous as you'll use less memory.
