how to import the 3d model?

When I import fbx file(or 3d model) to asset, the console show me the 'Check external application preferences' massage. Then I cant play model's animation. even if it is basic '3rd person controller' which is included unity(fortunately 'running' animation can playable. but not the others).

But when I open the project, which is made by other users, it play the 3d model's animation very well. I dont know why this is happened.

What is the 'external application'? please give me clue :(
