How to light massive indoor environment with shadows
Hello,
I am trying to light a massive indoor space for a 3d person action game, and thus far I've had some issues. Requirements: Brightly Lit Wide Coverage (massive radius and wide angle), Quality Shadows, No directional light (it's indoors completely, no way to use directional light)
Problems: Shadows are disgustingly pixelated, despite reducing shadow distance, and increasing resolution to very high. Both with hard and soft shadows, The player character's shadow is almost non existent it's so low res.
Examples
Now in looking it up I've found people saying "Decrease shadow distance" or "make directional light and make the walls not receive shadows" but I've either tried that or it didn't look right. I've also read about scaling up the whole thing, but I want that to be the nuke approach, last ditch effort, because that will make the programmers have to modify almost everything about the game.
I am desperately looking for an answer to this because thus far nothing has worked. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
