Changing material name
How do you change the name of a material after creating it? I haven't been able to figure this out and am stuck with New Material, New Material 1, New Material 2, etc.
Got stuck on this one too.. New to Unity so thanks for the help! The right mouse "rename" seems like it should exist!

On the Mac you hit enter to rename an asset or click, wait and click again.

PC, highlight the material in Project view, press F2. (or the click-wait-click method) (Actually FOR MONTHS I was too looking for the "Rename" in context menu.)
I know this post is a bit old, but you are my new hero.

For a Windows user it's extremely awkward, but I can confirm that left-click... wait... left-click again, works in windows as well.
Wow, ty. This was driving me insane trying to figure out.

So simple its almost stupid. You would figure they would at least implement a r-click rename feature

I spent a whole day trying to figure it out. Some things in Unity I must say is very frustrating to learn. Someone on here posted a right click alternative. Tried it a few hundred times and wondered whether the poster had ever done it, because it didn't work. They should put important things like renaming and frequent tasks into the right click option, many windows users first go to the right click procedure to find the answer, it's how windows users learn a new software.
While right-click to rename is very intuitive, your post is a comment and not an answer, please convert to a convert.
