"Import Assets" Speed, need a better procesoor?
Hello, I'd want to know how Unity works in the "import assets" speed.
Does it depend on the processor or the memory?
It increases his speed in a dual Quad-Core processor? or is the same in a Single quad-core?is better a intel xeon or I7? do i need more than 8 GB of memory?
It's because I want to buy a Mac Pro and I will import up to 100mb models.
What do you recommend to me? Thanks
I'd also like to know more on this subject. Sometimes it's quick at importing assets and sometimes it's so dreadfully slow that I have to kill the Unity process and it goes faster the next time.
Depending on the asset, several processes must occur. Its not just a case of sticking the file in.
These include, but are not limited to, Compression, Conversion and Compilation.
If its faster next time, its probably because most of the work has already been done.
I did read somewhere that Unity Editor doesn't really do $$anonymous$$ultithreading. Not sure how accurate this info is.
Unity 4.5.2 seems really faster now at importing meshes. But still really slow when it comes to textures on android, and if you take a look, what is taking its sweet time is that etc texture compression tool, only taking a single core.
